EverStryke's GM Ranting & Raving Blog!
>> Blog HomeAnnouncing Retirementby EverStryke on 2012-09-22 07:59:168 years... ...That is how long I have been doing this GM gig. In those years I have met and played with some of the finest people I could have ever hoped to meet. I have met rivals the likes of some will never encounter. I have succumbed to fear in my lowest moments. I have done the impossible in my finest moments. My closest officers followed me out of respect, and the newest member followed me because of reputation. My most vocal opponents have always thrown down their opinions AFTER they prefaced it by saying how well my organizations have run. I am a no holds bar personality. Always have been, always will. When I began running guilds, I did it for sheer enjoyment. I enjoyed seeing how my network grew, and how it helped everyone it touched. Small organizations do that many times. As it grew, problems occurred, most of it revolving around envy, and jealousy... but I went on. Anonymity kept my most vocal opponents insulated so they could spout childish and ignorant comments about me, my organization and even my followers... but I went on. Full scale insurrection at times, and I went on. I believed in my system, and my system never failed. It was a... More Loyalty, is it important?by EverStryke on 2012-07-16 04:25:25OK, I admit it, the title is a loaded question. That being said, loyalty is far to undervalued in any organization in my opinion. In my experience, most people join guilds for "What they can get out of it" & far too few join to "Help make it a better organization". Few people want to help make a guild a place where you get to know someone rather than logging in simply to see "what can I get out of it today". As a GM that has seen it over and over and over, it sickens me. On a societal and personal level. But I keep on doing what I do because I know sooner or later I find diamonds in the rough and those gemstones shine brighter than anything you can imagine over time if given a chance. To be honest, I admit, it has taken its toll on me as a GM over the years. One of my main rules is "If I have to kick you I have failed you". But sometimes, even I see the traits of Abusive, Ignorant, Greedy, pathologically belligerent players come through the doors of my guild and I simply want to kick them without giving them a chance. Judgemental? Yes. Correct? Usually 90% of the time. I always give them the chance to show their true colors first though. Being able to... More An introductionby EverStryke on 2012-06-30 01:53:15Well, This is the first in my series of Blogs. A way for my members, and the general public to get to know the GM of this guild. I don't get close to members because I think it can cause me to make bad decisions. I am very "Captain Picard'ish" when it comes to that. Every guild leader has thier own way of handling issues, and managing thier guild. This is mine. Who am I? A Father, a Husband, a Former Marine, and an experienced guild leader. I got my pedigree running guilds in City of Heroes. Many years later, I lived and learned. Now I am here. What games have I played? I began playing MMO's in SFC3. I loved the Space based PvP, taking over Hexes until a faction won the board. It was addictive, and I played longer than I probably should have. I moved over to Guild Wars, and wasn't impressed much there, so I didn't play much. I had a motorcycle accident that nearly killed me. It put me up for many months. In that time, I found City of Heroes. Due to down time and a severe enjoyment of the game and it's mechanics, I became adept and found many others who enjoyed it like myself. How long have I led Guilds? I began leading guilds in 2005(ish). You could say even... More |
